Frequently Asked Questions
Can I order my gift today and have it shipped later?
Yes! All orders placed through our online store can have a custom shipping date that you choose. Order your holiday, birthday or other gifts up to 90 days in advance of the day you want them shipped. Never forget an important occasion again.
What should I do when I receive my order?
Upon receiving your shipment of Taste of Texas steaks, place them in your freezer immediately. Your shipment contained a block of dry ice to keep the product frozen during transit. Dry ice is a frozen gas which dissipates over time. If there is dry ice remaining in the container, avoid contact with your bare skin. Use gloves or oven mitts to dispose of the ice, or leave the ice in the container, where it will dissipate naturally. If there is no dry ice remaining in the container when you open your shipment, there is no need for concern. What is important is that the items are still frozen, or are cold to the touch.
How should I thaw my order?
Keeping food safety in mind, Taste of Texas steaks should always be thawed in your refrigerator in the vacuum packaging, unless otherwise directed. This allows the product to thaw slowly while retaining the natural juices essential for great flavor. Steaks will usually thaw overnight or within one day in your refrigerator. Allow proper time for thawing. Thawed steaks and chops may be re-frozen so long as they have remained refrigerated and have not thawed longer than one day. Never thaw products at room temperature or under hot water. Note: Sometimes the vacuum packaging will leak while the product is still in your refrigerator. This results from small pin holes which may occur during freezing and/or shipping. You do not need to be concerned as long as the product has been maintained frozen and then refrigerated while thawing. We recommend thawing our meats on a plate or in a baking pan to catch any fluids during thawing.
Do you have a guarantee?
Taste of Texas Promise of Quality:
WE GUARANTEE THE QUALITY AND GRADE OF OUR MEATS.
Our Certified Angus Beef is of the highest quality. When you from us, you will receive only genuine Certified Angus Beef that has been perfectly aged for 29 to 35 days. Others only age their beef for 14 days as it is often prohibitively expensive to age it as long as we do.
WE GUARANTEE THAT YOUR PRODUCT WILL ARRIVE IN WHOLESOME CONDITION.
Your meats will arrive from Taste of Texas either frozen or chilled.
WE GUARANTEE THAT YOU WILL RECEIVE WHAT YOU ORDER.
We weigh our meat on electronic digital scales carefully monitored for accuracy so you will always receive the weight you ordered, or more. In addition, we work hard to ensure that your order is picked and shipped correctly. If an item is out of stock we will notify you and give you an opportunity to substitute.
WE ASK YOU TO NOTIFY US OF PROBLEMS BY THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY.
Our "Promise of Quality" is your assurance of quality from Taste of Texas. If we fail to live up to any aspect of our guarantee, we will replace your order or refund your money, provided that you notify us by calling 713-465-5662, by the next business day after receipt of your order. Do not return any product without first making arrangements with Customer Service. (We reserve the right to fully investigate claims that we believe to be unfounded or fraudulent.)
How are steaks packaged?
Our Steaks are shipped flash frozen in a beautifully designed custom foam cooler and packed with dry ice. Why do we ship our steaks frozen? Today direct - mail meat purveyors are touting the benefits of fresh beef as opposed to frozen beef. The truth? The term "fresh" is highly deceptive and is not necessarily a good thing. "Fresh" means the meat is not aged, however, the finest cuts of beef always need to be aged. Quite simply, aging is what makes meat tender and more flavorful, but once you age meat, it is no longer "fresh." Furthermore, so-called "fresh" selections can actually be inferior to professionally flash-frozen products. Here's why: If not used within 48 hours of receipt, never frozen cuts will begin to purge their natural juices, resulting in a less juicy product. The bottom line? With proper handling, frozen and never frozen beef offer the same product quality. In fact, in years of blind taste-testing, chefs and home gourmets can't tell the difference between never frozen beef and beef that has been properly thawed from a properly frozen steak.
